Hi, I’m Jamie

When I was 9 years old, my future became clear to me, I was going to be a doctor. Not only a doctor but a Pediatric Orthopedic Spine Surgeon. There is evidence that over the years I debated other careers, a drawing showing me playing for the NY Mets, for example, the third basewoman, if you’re wondering. (If you’re not wondering, TLDR below)

Why I was going to be a Pediatric Orthopedic Spine Surgeon is a story all its own, but this idea stuck. It stuck through my high school extracurricular activities, through my time at Brown University, and all the way through my first few jobs as a clinical researcher in, you guessed it, an orthopedic surgery department.

As a native New Yorker, I thought going to college in Rhode Island was a big move, and had returned back to “the city” after college. A few years down my path towards my professional goal, identified by my 2nd-grade self, I found myself at a moment I had never previously allowed myself.

Did I, my 20-something-year-old self, want to be a Pediatric Orthopedic Spine Surgeon?

By asking myself that question, I immediately knew the answer. As it turns out, I had changed since I was 9 years old. This question sent my life into a bit of a tailspin. Including a 15 month journey where I took the first job I was offered because it paid me double what I had been making previously, moved from NYC to Washington DC to San Francisco and back for this job.

During this time, I learned many lessons about finding a job path, I learned about myself as an adult person, and I had the good fortunate to do this living in a city where I knew no one, so the external influences had been minimized.

I also started to recognize I was not alone on my clueless path to identifying a career path. As I started to share my story with those around me, they too expressed frustration, overwhelm and outright annoyance with the job hunting process and their unending search for a job they didn’t hate showing up to, let alone felt enthusiastic about.

Whether your story is like mine, changing your plan or you never actually made a plan at all, I can confidently say that as a career coach, I can help you identify, go after and get your next professional goal. I can say this because I have done it before. In the words of my client, Mohita,

“I was at a crossroads in my career, felt muddled and wanted to obtain greater clarity on my own priorities and needs. Through my conversations with Jamie, she asked probing and insightful questions, which helped me uncover more about my aspirations, strengths, workplace preferences and challenges. I was able to arrive at a decision which felt meaningful for me.”

As a career coach, I support and teach professional women who want successful careers they are proud of, where they are recognized for their work and contributions to their companies. They know there is more out there for them, but they are not quite sure what it is or how to get there.

Working with Jamie was a wonderful experience! I was having trouble deciding between job options and had gotten stuck in analysis paralysis. Jamie was able to help me view the situation through my priorities and put all the aspects in the right perspective. In the end, I made a choice that I'm very satisfied with now, and thinking about my career more strategically.
